IModinari Street Painting Festival

What did you do Memorial Day weekend? I hope you made it over to the Italian street painting festival at The Mission, IModinari. I go every year. A week later... :) while the paintings are still fresh. Check out a couple of my favorites from this years festival.

Father Virgil Cordano passed away last May. He was a dear soul who contributed many great things to our community. This painting warms my heart because it depicts The Santa Barbara Mission, Queen of the California Missions, in all of her glory.

For all my Aztec Warrior Chicano Princesses

Oh Baby Pin Up Love.

One of many SB Fire Fighter tributes.

Rogue Wave Show: Anderson ART Collective

You do not want to miss this amazing event taking place next Saturday in Carpinteria...

Hosted by Anderson Art Collective, and my dear friend Sean Anderson & his lovely family & friends. Sean is a Santa Barbara local whom attended the San Francisco Art Academy and has been praised for his fine art skills, including a commissioned portrait of the San Francisco Mayor Newsom a couple years back, founder and curator of Rumble Art 09, and recently added, however already configured through birth, the Anderson Art Collective.

ROGUE WAVE ARRIVES IN CARPINTERIA AS BENEFIT FOR SURFRIDER FOUNDATION.

Santa Barbara, CA - Anderson Art Collective is the impact zone for Rogue Wave on June 27th when twelve contemporary artists present their work at the gallery in the historic Henry Fish Seed Company building in Carpinteria.

Curators Benjamin and Sean Anderson promise “an edgy and comprehensive survey of contemporary surf art, bringing the rogue-ish energies of the contemporary art world into the realm of surf culture” in this show that benefits the Surfrider Foundation.

Artist Randy Noborikawa, in collaboration with shaper Eric Christensen, brings his own strain of beautiful strange fish, boards contrary to art world trends and all things "surf related". Juxtaposed against the iconic surf photography of Bob Barbour will be work by Scott Richards, Art Director for Quiksilver, who has as his job list, among other things, traveling the globe, directing photo shoots and looking for artistic inspiration everywhere he goes. Blakeney Sanford, known for her installations of rebar, resin and fiberglass constructs her own rogue wave rising thirteen feet above the entrance to the gallery while Benjamin Anderson’s near life-sized oil painting of a shark attack is a reminder of what lives beneath the waves.

Legendary surfboard shaper Rennie Yater’s collaborative efforts with artist Kevin Ancell will also be in the show, having crossed the boundaries into the contemporary arena.

Rogue Wave runs through August 2 and benefits the Surfrider Foundation with five percent of art sales and all proceeds from the opening night, going to the non-profit. The opening is on Saturday, June 27 from 10 am to 10pm with refreshments from the Island Brewing Company starting at 5pm. The Palm Loft Gallery next door is also opening a surf related show on the 27th entitled Making Magic: Surfing Points and Painting Spots. Continuing the theme of their Wet Paint series, there will be a number of small unframed coastal landscapes and five percent of sales will go to Heal the Ocean.

“These two art show openings are the same day as the Rods and Roses Car Show on Linden Avenue and the annual Fourth of July Parade here in Carpinteria. Both galleries are right at the entrance to the Carpinteria State Beach so you have a great destination for surf, sun, cars, music, contemporary and plein air art,” according to Leigh-Anderson director of the gallery.

Anderson ART Collective has six shows on the 2009 Santa Barbara art schedule, all of which will contribute a percentage of sales to non-profit organizations supported by this unique family of contemporary fine artists.

Located at 410 Palm Avenue in Carpinteria, CA, the gallery is open Fri, Sat, Sun from 1-6pm . Phone 805.684.8783 for more information or email info@andersonARTcollective.com.

Wyatt Perkins for Surf Happens

I have to admit, I was pretty confused when I stepped into Chris Keet's yard for the Lakers game yesterday and saw a grip of Montana Spray Paint. Rewind for a sec, Chris Keet's runs the famous Rincon Classic surf competition each year, and founded Surf Happens. Surf Happens is Santa Barbara's premier surf school during the summer and is held at SB's safest beach, Santa Claus Lane. For more info, check the link.

Back to my story. As I walk in, I see all these Montana Spray Cans and almost wet myself. I am like... "who is busting out in Chris's yard? Like seriously." I was bewildered because here was all this professional art equipment at this surfer's house. Random. I turn, and I see his surf trailer all pimped out with the radest designs on it and a sick painting of Sand Bar, that only a local can draw. That Surfs. Because if you know, that shit spits. And it is spitting all over Chris's new surf wip.

Chris tells me that Wyatt Perkins busted it out, and I was literally overwhelmed with joy. Wyatt is a Santa Barbara Local kid I have grown up with since 7th grade who is extremely talented at painting and drawing. I haven't seen Wyatt for a while, and I was enthralled by the fact that he was painting again and involved in this amazing surf program that stokes out kids all summer, and it made me really really happy. I am so happy to see hommie movin' and doing what he does best, paint and draw- for himself.

Pro Skater Jereme Rogers "ate some `mushrooms' and bugged out"

LOL Rogers tears it up, got wind of this today, he wins mad events, including the X-Games, Sponsors include Redbull, Plan B, and Swiss (LOL) but he keeps kooking it!

Just watch, this will boost his publicity. Funny ass shit in skateboarding.

Professional skateboarder Jereme Rogers said Wednesday he was sorry for disturbing his Redondo Beach neighbors this week when he "ate some `mushrooms' and bugged out," preaching naked on his rooftop.

Rogers, a high school dropout who attributes his skateboarding skills to God, was eventually grabbed by police officers and brought down from his precarious perch.

"It obviously was not an everyday experience," the 24-year-old athlete said. "It was a very out-of-body experience. I've never had an experience like that."

Rogers pulled off his boxer shorts about 6:40 a.m. Monday and climbed onto the roof of the two-story house he shares with roommates on Havemeyer Lane and Goodman Avenue.

"It was obviously something I shouldn't have done," Rogers said as he rolled a marijuana joint in his bedroom. "It was just something that happened."

Redondo Beach police Lt. Jim Acquarelli climbed about 20 to 30 feet to the roof, where he found Rogers yelling and screaming. Acquarelli said Rogers' roommates told him that he had ingested the hallucinogenic drug.

Rogers ran back and forth around the roof's perimeter, sitting down at the edge with his back to the street.

"He would have fragmented, interrupted conversations with people that weren't there," Acquarelli said.

Rogers never tried to jump or talked of suicide, but he came very close to falling.

Rogers, who is religious and often talks about spirituality, said in the interview that he was preaching to the neighbors and talking about God.

"I literally was walking on the edge," he said. "They said my balance was amazing."

Acquarelli said he read some of the tattoos on Rogers' body and used the words to try to draw his interest. Rogers has "In God I Trust" tattooed on his neck and similar tattoos on his body and arms.

The police officer told Rogers he was a Catholic high school teacher, talked about spirituality and success, and drew Rogers' attention. He got closer to Rogers and two other officers moved in and grabbed him.

Rogers was taken to County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for 72-hour observation. He was not arrested but possibly could face charges later.

Rogers, a native of Boston, was voted TransWorld Skateboarding's 2006 Rookie of the Year. His sponsors include Billabong, DVS, Royal Diamond, Modern Wheels, Monster Energy Drink and Boost Mobile, according to a profile on about.com's skateboarding page.

"Jereme Rogers is a self-taught, highly driven skateboarder," wrote the author, Steve Cave. "He pushed himself into being good enough to ride with the pros, and he still pushes himself today to become the best park rider around. And he's doing it. Jereme Rogers' style is strong and fluid, and loads of switch tricks mixed in."

The article said Rogers dropped out of high school to pursue skateboarding, and is a very outspoken Christian.

"In interviews he has no problem talking about how he got his skill in skateboarding from God, and then dropping an F-bomb. Jereme Rogers has a clean image and is a role model to skaters all over the planet."

Rogers did not smoke the joint in front of a reporter. He said it is well known among his fans that he is a user.

"Yeah, I'm rolling weed," he said. "I have a medical card. I'm a weed smoker."

"Rocka Billy Baby"

I hope it inspires you to go look cute and rock out. Which I think is the point of the site... making people more fashion concisous and giving them ideas. Cool beans. I dig it.

Mary-Louise Parker, the Pin-Up Queen of Dank

I am happy to say that Mary-Louise Parker from Showtime's hit series WEEDS is officially the Pin- Up Queen of Dank.

As perhaps my greatest passion as it relates to the arts, art of the Pin-Up & Pin-Up history are my in fact something I do study in my free because they make me happy and these hotties set the stage for an idealistic way of how women should present themselves.

Here is a little back ground on the "Pin-Up":

A pin-up girl or pin-up model is a model whose mass-produced pictures see wide appeal as pop culture. Pin-ups are intended for informal display. Pin-up girls are typically glamor models, fashion models, and actresses.

Pin-up may also refer to drawings, paintings and other illustrations done in emulation of these photos. The term was first attested to in English in 1941; however the practice is documented back at least to the 1890s. The pin up images could be cut out of magazines or newspapers, or be from postcard or chromo-lithographs, and so on. Such photos often appear on calendars, which are meant to be pinned up anyway. Later, posters of pin-up girls were mass-produced.

I have spent lots of money and time researching Pin- Up artists and models, and I am here to bring you the best.

When I first started watching the show WEEDS... I did take notice that Miss Mary-Louise was in fact presented as the networks newest TV Pin Up just by the advertising campaign. And it make sense in terms of her character, which if you watch the show, you know that Nacy Botwin is extremely sexually charged.

Please make sure to notice the deliberate attempts to create Nacy as a Pin- Up... lingerie corsets, the poses are pristine, she is doing something around the "house" and carrying out her usual business looking sexy, ruffle undies, sparkle heals, and a checkered bathing suit. Come on!

Now here is the Dank Pin Up
