Real Recongnizes Real

Summer 2011 Rebel8 line just dropped. Frothing over this "Skate Core" tee!!!!!
You gotta go to the site to get the zoomed in view. The graff in the pool is sweet! I honestly love the fresh new look R8 is taking with incorporating color into Giant's art. The design and layout of this tee is awesome.

Straight from the Owner of Rebel 8, Joshy D:

"Summer ’11 is the first season since mid-2008 that I had a big hand in designing. Back in the day, circa ’04, before Giant lived in SF, he’d send me poster tubes filled with art. With a Pantone book in one hand and the original art in the other, I’d pick and choose ink colors, graphic sizes and placements. I’d take the over-sized posters to a spot in SoMa [San Francisco] to have them shot directly to film. From there I’d hit the screenprinter and choose body styles and colorways. And that was how REBEL8 would get made. Back then it was literally just Mike Giant and Joshy D.

In fact, Giant wouldn’t even see what I did with his art until we’d link up in Vegas in our shitty motel room where I’d present him the line. Thankfully he was always stoked on what I did and his trust in me became stronger with each season. I made a promise to Mike back then that I would always keep his name in the highest regard and always make sure his art was properly showcased and respected. Over the years we’ve all seen shady motherfuckers fuck a lot of talented artists, and I would never do that to my number one homeboy.

So getting back to Summer 2011. It’s available right now in its entirety here. It’s my favorite season we released in quite some time. Summer ’11 is homage to our past and our legitimate history in skateboarding. It’s simple, but well thought-out. It’s pure REBEL8, back to the basics. Back to why you fell in love with REBEL8 in the first place.

Our history makes us who we are today and our today determines whom we will be tomorrow.
REBEL8 is built around like-minded individuals and that is why you are reading these very words right now. We are a big healthy family that supports each other, fights our enemies, and holds fast.

Summer at the Santa Barbara Bowl

This weekend, I officially kicked off my Summer with a trip to the Santa Barbara Bowl to see Lauren Hill. What would summer be like with out the SB Bowl? God only knows.... I just know it is my favorite Summer past time.
Standard SB Bowl picture ! :) Cute as always!
That is us having lots of fun and trying to pretend Lauren Hill's live performance wasn't very entertaining. She started to play at 8:50 PM and with a 10:00 PM SB curfew, she was literally on stage for 50 minutes. And she sounded not that great.... sorry Lauren..... It was just too fast on your good songs! Band was too "funky". But "Oh la la la" was a good one.

This summer is kind of weak at The SB Bowl. What do you  guys think about the schedule?

Either way, SB Bowl + My Girlies + Summer = Best Time Ever

My New Sk8 Setup VS Da Old One

I never was one for traditional sports. I was the scronny chic in Jr High that no one wanted on their team. I picked up skateboarding in the 7th grade and it has always my little thing. I can ollie. My claim to fame. I have emersed myself in the skate industry for the past 2 1/2 years and this past week I set up my first vert board.

I used to want to learn how to kick flip, but now all I want to do is smoke the bowls at the park. Or hit up a good pool here and there. Or just drop in with out breaking my whole face.

Here is my new set up:
hoopla skateboards 8.25" Deck
Indepedent 149 Trucks
Chris Miller 56mm BONES WHEELS Skate Park Formula
BONES HARDCORE Bushings- One Medium, One Soft
Reds Bearings (Swiss are next!!!)
Thank you to Mimi Knoop, Cara-Beth Burnside, and the whole hoopla skateboards team for inspiring me and encouraging Woman's skateboarding

Here is my old set up:
Mini Logo 7.75" deck
sample white trucks glossy
BONES 53mm All Terrain Formula wheels
BONES HARDCORE Medium Bushings

In case you need a summary of what I changed up, here it is- This used to be my trade show cruising around the hood board... so it is skinner, the wheels are softer for going over gravel, and they are smaller. Oh, and the trucks just look pretty against the white background. I didn't want to scratch them (I am such a chic).
Yes, I had pink grip tape. I wanted it to be all girlie. Now this shit just gets dirty. Lol. Back to black!
Yeah all my favorite brands get a little spot on board. Yes, I kook it and I'm not sponsored. :P I have a freakish sticker obsession and will be stickering up my new hoopla deck once I get a wild hair up my butt!

Wish me luck! First session on my new board was Saturday and I am working on my wall rides and getting used to a bigger deck and faster, harder wheels.
Later skater.

PS. Did I tell you I was deathly afraid of the slam??????!?!?!??!?! AHAHHHH

Musing: Brody Dalle

Have you ever heard of Brody Dalle? Wait lets back up, have you ever heard Brody Dalle scream??

I am going to have to give it to her- she has the best vocal chords for a female screamer I have ever heard. Maybe you listen to punk rock music, maybe you don't, but I am here to share with you my latest inspiration... Brody Dalle.
Brody's new band, Spinnerette is amazing! I can't stop listening to the CD (thanks Adam Mars and Mike Taylor) thus here I am blogging about it. Check out this track...

Brody's other band, The Distillers is also rad. She screams a little more in this one.

This song is sooo goood.
There is just something about this picture.
Brody singing with ex-husband Tim Armstrong, the lead singer of Rancid
Brody with husband Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures and Eagles of Death Metal band member)

Alexander McQueen White Wedding Dress As Designed By Sarah Burton

 From CBS.com

Miss Middleton chose British brand Alexander McQueen for the beauty of its craftsmanship and its respect for traditional workmanship and the technical construction of clothing," the palace said. " Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterizes Alexander McQueen's work. Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress."

The dress is made of French Chantilly lace and English Cluny lace throughout the bodice, skirt and underskirt. The dress, made of ivory and white satin gazar, was designed to emulate an opening flower. The train measures almost nine feet long.

The lace applique for the bodice and skirt was hand-made by the Royal School of Needlework. Individual flowers were hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create the dress' design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock. The back of the dress was finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops.

"It has been the experience of a lifetime to work with Catherine Middleton to create her wedding dress, and I have enjoyed every moment of it," Burton said in a statement. "It was such an incredible honour to be asked, and I am so proud of what we and the Alexander McQueen team have created. I am delighted that the dress represents the best of British craftsmanship."

Middleton's veil is made silk tulle with a trim of hand-embroidered flowers. It is held in place by a Cartier "halo" tiara, lent to Middleton by Queen Elizabeth II. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now the Queen) by her mother on her 18th birthday.

The bride's earrings, diamond-set stylized oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond set drop and a pave set diamond acorn suspended from the center, are by Robinson Pelham and were inspired by the Middleton family's new coat of arms. The earrings, which were made to match the tiara, were a personal gift to Middleton from her parents for her wedding day.

Her handmade shoes, also by McQueen, were composed of ivory duchesse satin and lace.

Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All

What have you been listening to lately? Coachella seems like the right time of year to update my music library, even though I didn't go, it's just that time of the year to get some new jams.

I like to listen to lots of different music, but hip-hop will always take up a permanet slot on my playlist. I can't help but take notice of LA's Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. They have been blowing up on the net for a couple years now... They make all their own beats. They make all their own art. They are talented. And I dig their "I don't give a fuck" attitude. It's raw. And it's funny!

Here are some vids if you are interested.
